Presentation Guidelines

We advise all presenters to look at the TIPS FOR TALKS (295 kB) presentation and read these guidelines (39kB) before starting to prepare their talks. This will help for all presenters, especially for students interested in a chance of an award.

Presentation facilities

Please note it is not allowed to use portable telephones or film/video the lectures in the lecture halls.

Please bring a CD or USB key of your talk, so that it may be loaded onto the computer at registration on Sunday night by our Presentation Support team. Mac users must be early to check their presentation is compatible with our PC based system. Please check all your videos run properly with our IT support team at the presenter help desk before your presentation.
No one will be allowed to present from their own lap-top or Mac.

For oral presentations the following equipment will be available:

  • Video/Data beam (1024x768), double beam projection of the same slide. Mouse to use as pointer on the double projection (please do not use laser as this can not go to both screens).

  • Windows system (PC) with Powerpoint XP (Office XP) - you only need to bring your talk on CD or on USB key.

  • Mac users must convert the talk into PC compatible powerpoint on a CD or USB key before the meeting and check it with with our Presentation Support team.

  • Three fixed microphones in the aisles available for discussions. One must just stand at the microphone after the talk and wait for the chairperson to ask for your question.

English is the official conference language.

We insist that speakers keep to their presentation times given and chairs will stop talks that run overtime, designated discussion times will be included. It is arrogant and not acceptable to run into either the discussion time or someone else's time. if you uncomfortable with speaking English without aids, please submit for poster presentation.

Designated discussion times are for discussion, not for extra minutes of a talk. We encourage critical discussion of presentations, as would occur in a paper review.
Oral presentations will be 11 minutes (strictly enforced) each with 4-5 minutes discussion.
Invited speakers will have 20-22 minutes (strictly enforced) each with 8-10 minutes discussion.

Poster presentations

Poster presentations may be shown during the whole conference and placed according to their number. Posters should be no larger than DIN A0 (84 cm wide by 118.8 cm long) in portrait form and not landscape. Double sided sticky tape will be provided for poster mounting. Posters remaining at the end of the conference that are not removed will be destroyed.
